I have lived near Barr Beacon for pretty much all my life. It was the first place my parents took me after I was born. I used to cycle up there as a lad. During the day it was a place to enjoy a picnic and an ice cream. At night it was a place to take a girlfriend.
The first flat I bought overlooked Barr Beacon as did the 1st house. For about 5 years in the 2010’s, I went for a run over it every morning until the dog walkers and their dogs made it untenable. The dogs had every right to jump up and down on me apparently. This always quickly lead to a confrontation.
Famously it is the highest point until you reach the Urals. In the day now the dog walkers have taken over and it is a lawless no man’s land at night when all of the gates are shut. Over time I have made a few videos there – here are some of the best.
Here are some aerial shots giving an overview of the area.

Dogs are allowed to run free across the Beacon. Their owners make no attempt to keep them under control. It became so bad that although I loved running over the Beacon that I had to give it up and choose an alternative route where the dogs were less of a problem.
